Chères Dames de la Chaîne, Chers Confrères, dear friends and future members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs,
The history of the association begins in 1248, when King Louis IX - called Saint Louis - got the authorization to found the Guild of the roasters of geese - the "ayeurs".
The Royal recognition was conferred to them in 1610 with the presentation of the professional emblem of the "Roaster". In 1789, during the French Revolution, this guild as well as all the others, was disbanded. On Easter 1950, in Paris, the association was reconstituted and given the name of "La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs".
With 760 years of existence, the "Chaîne des Rôtisseurs" is accordingly the most ancient gastronomic association, active in more than 80 countries with 25'000 members. Switzerland is in third position with 2000 members.
